What Does OMSI Mean to You?
A recently retired businesswoman and community investor, Diane Boly once
said that, "OMSI is the place where my family spends time together learning
and getting inspired." OMSI is humbled to have Diane as a member of the
J.C. Stevens Legacy Society. Diane co-founded the Portland recruitment and
consulting firm Boly:Welch. She shared her story with OMSI Development
How did you first get involved with OMSI?
I would take my children to OMSI and loved seeing them light up every time
we walked through the doors. They loved visiting and I loved being with
them. It was our time to have fun and learn something new. Now I get to do
this with my grandchildren who enjoy attending camps. They come home and
share all they have learned with such excitement.
Why and how have you chosen to support OMSI?
I support OMSI because it gives so much back to the community. It is a
place where my children, grandchildren and hopefully great-grandchild will
go to learn and be inspired. I made a bequest to OMSI in my estate plan
because I have 11 grandchildren and this gift will be part of their legacy
and a way for me to give something to them. It is not only for my kids, but
for the whole community that has given so much to me and my business.
Who is/are your role models?
I learn so much from my grandkids who teach me to have fun and to be
willing to learn. Learning should never stop, and with them, I am always
learning. I also have a 91 year old friend who was a professional woman at
a time when that was not typical. She inspired and mentored me into
becoming the professional I am today. I was also inspired by Gary Maffei
(former OMSI Board Member, OMSI Emeritus Board Chair, and community
philanthropist) with all his community involvement. He gives back and
connects so many to such great causes. He makes me want to do more for my
What do you do in your free time?
I spend as much time as possible with my family and especially with my
grandchildren. They are my whole world. I also tend grapes on the slopes of
Mt. Adams and used to, but not as much anymore, ride my bike a lot. I have
biked all over France with my husband, Mark. I know the country so well now
that it is practically a second home. I really love going to new
restaurants and my newest favorite is Coquine on Mt. Tabor. I went there
recently with a friend and was blown away.
OMSI thanks Diane for making plans to support OMSI well into the future as
a member of the J.C. Stevens Legacy Society.
